Has Digi found a cure to the real time bounce already?
Hi everyone,
Just wondering, since I just updated to LE 8.0 Has Digi finally come up with an option to bounce audio faster than real-time? I know I can always work around this by just running the session in 44.1 16 bits, and finding the appropriate file in the "Audio Files" folder. It just seems like an awkward way to work, especially if this is a mixdown of several tracks. All other DAWs (that I'm familiar with) have an "export" function where you just highlight the audio, and the program exports the mixdown in mere seconds... Any help is appreciated.. Re: Has Digi found a cure to the real time bounce already?
Are you familiar with Pro Tools plug ins which are called RTAS?
This stands for Real Time Audio Suite. By the nature of the way they work they have to be in real time. Also - many people using Pro Tools will be using outboard gear, which obviously needs to be used in real time. |

Re: Has Digi found a cure to the real time bounce already?
Of course I am familiar.
There's a way to work around what you are saying, and that is to use "Audiosuite" and process whatever plugins I am using on the audio region itself. This takes a few seconds to do. After that I can bounce without using any plugins on the track. The issue again, is - how do you bounce faster than real-time. I should mention that it's important to me because in my business, I'm expected to deliver audio files fast. After I record a 30 minute voice over for example, I have to edit out the noise and breathing. Then I have to export it to 44.1 16 bits. So I just want to know if there's another way to do it other than what I mentioned initially. Thanks, Mony Voice Crafters www.voicecrafters.com |

If its just the one track you can use consolidate (alt+shift+3) and then export (ctrl+shift+k).
Unfortunatly the mix engine of PT is also real time, so if you are either mixing or using RTAS its a no go on offline bounce.

Re: Has Digi found a cure to the real time bounce already?
I don't have a link to the exact post but I remember reading from a digidesign employee that non real time bouncing would take a: "massive re-writing of the software" - or words to that effect.
He also went on to say at the moment there is no plans to include offline bouncing in any future versions (and I think the post was written since PT8 was released) I actually work with voice-overs myself (I work in radio) but I use Adobe Audition for that (if im allowed to say that!) It's not actually my choice, it was software that was purchased for the person who did my job before me, and now I am used to using it. It's certainly no-where near as powerful as Pro Tools, but it certainly is fast and has offline mixdown. I use Pro Tools for my music though. |

Re: Has Digi found a cure to the real time bounce already?
Hey - you can do 2 things that are fairly fast.
But for both make sure you create an alternative playlist and call it somethin like vocals (rendered) or kick (rendered) etc. 1:if you plugs are an insert you can copy the plug settings by holding Cntrl + Shift + C and then open the same plugin in the audio suite and paste the settings in there by pressing Ctrl + Shift + V and then you will have rendered it - this is great if your audio is quite long in time. 2:Go into quickpunch mode and then hit play - in quick punch mode pro tools records in the back ground but doesnt overwrite the audio until it's told to - so you hit F12 and then stop playback. Next you use the trim tool to peel back the audio until you reveal the rendered audio underneath and then export the file to your desired location via the region list menu or just use the comand which I think is Ctrl + Shift + K. Remember to create a new playlist though. I find option 1 works better as option 2 although hailed in a small kinda way is not really any faster than real time. I personally dont feel a massive need for a quick export I say BRING ON ADC! Baris

Re: Has Digi found a cure to the real time bounce already?
I never found it saved that much time because you still need to audition the bounce if any signal processing was used.
I mix back into a Pro Tools track and then consolidate and export the mix files. It's much faster to punch the mix down from the top in pieces and never bother with automation.

Re: Has Digi found a cure to the real time bounce already?
I know some could find a use for ths, but I've never missed it. With outboard reverbs and other fx it would take some thinking to come up with a use for it. Here is another vote for ADC first.
