Is it necessary to update? (noob)

So i just got my mbox 2 in the mail today. I've heard a lot of people say that you have to pay to update pro tools. So, since mbox 2 ships with pro tools 7.0. do I HAVE to update to use it or can i leave it at 7.0? Thanks!

It isn't necessary to update, but 7.3 brings a lot of great new features. And: as you bought your Pro Tools after the release of the new version, you just need to register your product and will get a free activation code for 7.3. So, go for it...

Apart from what Holly says about the free update, Pro Tools isn't perfect (I know !!!) and little bugs are found, these are usually fixed with CS releases, but every now and then a major change is added and some new features, these are usually paid updates. It is always free choice to update or not, I personally choose to update that way I like to think My version of PT is as hassle free as possible .
