Default iLok license manager through a proxy server

I've been advised by AVID tech support to seek my own support, from their email here

Quote:
The iLok License Manager does not currently support proxy connection but we will look into adding this capability in a future release of the iLok License Manager. No timeframe has been set for proxy connection support at this time.

Please do not use a proxy connection if possible. You may even want to use another Internet connection elsewhere that does not. If proxy use is a must, the details below may help you; however, you will have to seek further support on your own as to how and where to utilize this information.

Domain: activation.paceap.com
Port: 443
IP: 74.201.85.160
Basically the iLok manager isn't able to authenticate behind our proxy/LEA filtering. Does anybody else here use the license manager in a school/organisation that has a filtered internet connection?

If so, is there a way around this situation? Thanks for looking.

The easiest solution would probably be to have your organization open that port with a rule for that IP on the firewall.

Actually that port is for SSL so it should already be open, they probably just need to allow that IP address through the firewall.

The nice thing with the ILM is you don't need to do your license activations with the iLok on the music computer. You can have the ILM installed on any net connected computer, connect the iLok to that computer, and do what you need to do with the ILM. Apparently your school already had the ILM installed on it's computers.

Interesting.. so if I go through the 15 sticks I have, registering them using my admin machine, they'll happily go back in the student machines and work?

Yes. That's the whole point of the iLok concept - they're not tied to any one specific machine. Just make sure the student machines all have ILM software which they would need anyways.

Just to clarify this bit, the student machines need the iLok License Manager because it has the necessary drivers. It needs to be installed, even if it cannot "phone home". Plus it will allow the administrator (you, in this case) to check which licenses are present, without the need to yank the iLok and plug into another machine.
