Like the most company's, Behringer has good stuff, and bad stuff.
I recently tested the Behringer condenser mic, and it sounded pretty good (for that little bit of cash...)
it has a lot of top end, but is not very warm.
Our singer's voice sounded marvelous trough it. Bit of a $$neumann$$ sound, but not that warm.
Their tube stuff is nice too, but i was a bit dissapointed by the Magican. It doesn't seem to do much. Sure you hear something, but i expected more...
For the rest i think you get what you pay for.

I have been doing something with the magician to get more sound out of it. I bought a used 6 channel rack mixer and I jack the signal really high db and then send it thru the tubes. Then you get a little tube distortion, it sound good on drums. when I didnt over drive the tubes I agree the difference was not that significant. try overdriving it so that the meters are always off the scale, it is a good sound, yet still subtle
