Default Pro Tools won't launch (unexpectedly quit)

Today, my Pro Tools app wouldn't launch.
It worked well for 9 months.

I tried deleting the prefs, databases, etc.
I tried deleting the app and re-installing without success.

My setup:
MacBook
OSX 10.4.11
2 Gb RAM
MBox Micro
PT 7.4 (tried 7.4cs8, no luck)

Here's the start of the Apple problem report:
OS Version: 10.4.11 (Build 8S2167)
Report Version: 4

Command: Pro Tools LE
Path: /Applications/Digidesign/Pro Tools/Pro Tools LE.app/Contents/MacOS/Pro Tools LE

PID: 354
Thread: 0

10.4.11 was installed or you had Software updater do it?
Did you try clearing the PRAM?

I think 10.4.9 was installed when I bought the machine... so I updated.
But that was long before I bought my MBox Micro.

Resetting PRAM didn't do the trick (good idea though).

Thanks for your time!

try removing any third party plugins ( except for the mixer )
and see if that helps
also try a new admin user

I've been having a vaguely similar problem and was wondering if anyone could offer a solution.

I have a Macbook 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (Mac OS X 10.5.5), and am trying to run my Mbox 1 with Pro Tools LE 6.7.

However, whenever I open Pro Tools a box pops up and reads "Digidesign hardware is in use by another application (-1133)". Even if the Mbox isn't plugged in to the macbook, this sign still comes up.

I assume I need to download a driver but can't seem to find the right one on the digidesign website.

Can anyone offer any help?

Yes, you need Pro Tools 7.4.2 or higher for compatibility with OS 10.5.5. Do a clean uninstall of 6.7 before upgrading. You can purchase the upgrade in Digistore.

Did you uninstall Pro Tools, or just delete the application? If you just deleted it, that won't do much good.

There are a couple different ways to uninstall:

1. Run the installer for the version of Pro Tools you're trying to uninstall - when you get to the Custom Install page, click on Custom Install and select 'Uninstall'. When you continue with the uninstall, it will give you the option for 'Clean' or 'Safe' - choose 'clean'.
2. In your Pro Tools Utilities folder you may have a Pro Tools Uninstaller - double click and follow on-screen instructions. Again, you'll be given the choice of clean or safe uninstalls.
3. On most Pro Tools install CD's or DVD's there will be an Uninstall utility - same steps as in #2.

I did uninstall Pro Tools with the included uninstaller.

Making a new Admin user did the trick... I was able to start Pro Tools.

What's the next step to make it work on my 'main' admin user?
Thanks for your help.
At least, I can get back to work.

THAT is going to be a tough one to answer, as there could be any number of issues with your main admin account causing the problem.

The error you originally posted:

Quote:
1 ...gn.framework.CoreFoundation 0x02427368 I18N_Utils::GetCurrentLanguage() + 466
Seems to point to some kind of language preference corruption. Obviously I can only speculate on this, as the log doesn't give much else to go on. Now which preference, specifically is corrupted - impossible to know without trial and error testing and that can become very tedious.

Sorry I don't have much else for you to go on - this is why we strongly recommend always having backups of your OS and other drives, so you have something to revert to should anything go wrong.
