Adding to the Rumors of NAMM--AIR releasing more stuff
I got an email today from AIR user blog that reads:
"Well to kick things off for 2010 we have a very special prize draw we are calling 'The Big One', thanks to the guys at AVID we're giving one lucky winner the chance to win not 1,2,3 or even 4, BUT 5 prizes! So if anyone thought that the AVID boys had been sitting on their hands doing nothing then be prepared for a huge surprise! One thing, is you won't know what they are until they are unveiled this month. We do know what they are and we have to say this is one hell of a prize and it will set you up for life." A couple thoughts. 1. These instruments must not be included in the new Pro Tools (if there will be a new Pro Tools release this month) otherwise, we wouldn't be able win the 5 prizes. 2. Do you think these be new versions of Structure, Hybrid, Transfuser, Strike and velvet?

Sounds like a pretty good theory to me !

Re: Adding to the Rumors of NAMM--AIR releasing more stuff
It seems to me that there will be a major announcement soon, and maybe at NAMM. I think the fact there has been no PT Upgrade release that has new features since the launch of PT8 back in late 2008, certainly suggests that Digi are not putting any more real efforts into it and just keeping it going for their existing customers. They seem to be just releasing bug fixes and if they were totally committed to the current system, then we would be on 8.2 or 8.3 by now with lots more new features that have been requested and are needed
I think if the rumours are true and they have their own platform and get away from PC and Macs then this would be a good thing. It means we can have all the features we need which Operating Systems are at times a hurdle, and the PT code can be rewritten again to erase all the nightmare problems we have always had to endure. I am wondering if PT will be more compatiable with the AVID and work together on its dedicated platform. Will be brilliant if this happens |

Not if it's basically a DSP-I/O box that the host "logs into". So you're working on a Mac or PC but the "business" is being done in the "appliance".
I sometimes use Screen Sharing to run my PT rig from my laptop, sort of like that, but faster. |

Re: Adding to the Rumors of NAMM--AIR releasing more stuff
If Digi drops mac/pc compatibility in favor of a dedicated system, I'm in the market for a new DAW for all 3 systems I have running.

Re: Adding to the Rumors of NAMM--AIR releasing more stuff
Wouldn't it simply be best to have all the DSP functions in an external box connected by one pcie card? Seems like all Avid would have to do then is update drivers instead of chasing OS all the time. All PT related functions could be focused on 'in the box' then.

Re: Adding to the Rumors of NAMM--AIR releasing more stuff
There is a gross misunderstanding of what it would take for Digi to create a dedicated, non-mac/windows based version of their software. Digidesign would have to create an entirely new OS (a near impossible undertaking), on top of a complete re-write of Pro Tools.
It simply will not ever happen - end of story.

On top of that. I am almost positive that DTS already commented on a post several months back confirming that it was a false rumor.

Re: Adding to the Rumors of NAMM--AIR releasing more stuff
whose story is being written here anyway?
Did you ever hear of the Wright brothers? Henry Ford? Marconi? Ben Franklin? Jesus? ___________ fill in the cast of 1000s of those who defied what others said could not be done. anything can happen...in fact... something needs to happen and all the players on both sides of the mastercard know it.
