Pro Tools 8 HD crashes when opening 7.4 sessions
I am having problems opening an important session from Pro Tools 7.4 HD, but Pro Tools 8 HD crashes everytime I try to open it.
I have tried repairing permissions and trashing prefs, and it has not worked. Does anyone have an idea of what is going on - and how to fix it? |

Re: Pro Tools 8 HD crashes when opening 7.4 sessions
Where is it in the launch process when it crashes?
Biggest suspects would be incompatible plug-ins. Try pulling all your plug-ins from your plug-ins folder and launch again. If it launches, you'll know it's a plug-in at fault. Also, you could try using Import Session Data to import tracks one by one until you identify the one causing the crash, then try to recall what about that particular track could be causing problems. |

Re: Pro Tools 8 HD crashes when opening 7.4 sessions
One addition to the above. After figuring out which plug-in it is by importing one by one (or if you just don't have the patience and need to get the session open quickly:
Hold down the Shift key while opening the session. This will deactivate all plug-ins. At that point remove the plugin from the suspect track and you're good to go. I've found that Amplitube is a usual suspect for all you LE users out there... |

Were these sessions saved on the same system or a different platform? Same processor type? Sounds like a preset endian issue.

First make sure all your plug-ins are current and see if that fixes the problem. If not, post your OS version, PT version, hardware setup, session sample rate and bit depth.

Re: Pro Tools 8 HD crashes when opening 7.4 sessions
Reviving this thread as I have the same problem. Just upgraded today and PT will load my old sessions (7.2) but will crash very soon after. In fact the crash is so hard force quit wont work so I have to hold down the power button on the front of the computer.
Anyone figure out what is causing this? Dual G5 2.0 pci-e 10.5.5 fresh install PT 8.0 cs3 fresh install NO third party plugs installed yet. Thanks. |

Did you trash your old digi databases? That free app will do that and more preference wise.
