Default Computer spike

Hi, new to the forum. I tried to add to another thread but it wouldn't let me on my first post. Anyway, I am very much a newbie and have been lurking here for a few months and have picked up lot's of great information. Thanks.
I recently have been monitoring my computer usage and have noticed a spike here and there. It ALWAYS spikes when I open pro tools but not very often otherwise. I guess I thought that was maybe normal. But...I have been wondering, I certainly do not want to do any damage, anybody know?

Hi Brentwood, and welcome to the DUC!

About CPU spikes... I have noticed increased CPU usage during opening a program, so that sound very normal. I would think of it as "cause and effect." If you can see a reason for the spike, it could very well be normal. The problem mostly lies when you have prolonged spikes, can see no apparent reason, and as a result get errors in PTLE. That would be the type of CPU spikes I would worry about. If you are able to record in PTLE in the low buffers (64 or 128) and there are no problems, then I would say you are good to go!
