Default MIDI Editor Piano Roll New Feature!

It would be great if the MIDI Editor in Pro Tools allowed us to rename/change the note names in the Piano Roll to suit our sessions. This is a great feature for easier MIDI editing erasing the need to click on each piano key to figure out what sound/sample is there..

Example: C3, C#3, D3, can be renamed Kick Drum, Snare, Hi Hat, etc

I'm surprised Digidesign didn't implement this into Version 8. It's never too late Digi...This is a great feature.

This has been available in the Piano Roll in FL Studio for years.

An alternative could be to setup multiple MIDI tracks in Single Note View naming these to reflect drum instruments and using the Superimposed Note View with 'Color Code MIDI Notes by Track' enabled.

Thing is, this feature is all about SPEED. Like assigning 12 different samples to the pads in Transfusers Drum Synth and then recording what I bang out to ONE MIDI/INSTRUMENT track in PT8 using my M-Audio Trigger Finger.

I don't want to then have to figure out when I'm editing in the MIDI Editor what sound each key in the piano roll represents. Renaming C3 to KICK, C#3 to HI-HAT, D3 to GIRL VOCAL SNIPPET, D#4 to CRASH, etc is what I'm talking about for MY WORKFLOW.

Your alternative solution is workable, but my recommendation is faster.

Your solution is not any faster if you set up a template once, and then use that any time you are starting a new session.

There are other editing advantages to having each drum on it's own track.
