Buying first time controller - recommendations?
Hey guys I want to buy a keyboard controller because I'm about to purchase Komplete 7.
I've never used a keyboard and am I looking for something cheap and not overly large (my workspace is comfortable, but not hugely spacious). Recommendations and where to get it? Thanks~! |

Re: Buying first time controller - recommendations?
Depends on what you NEED on the controller. Do you want Transport controls? Do you need lots of knobs for editing the VI's? Do you need to be able to split the keyboard for multiple instruments? I bought an old Ensoniq Mirage for $50 and it works just fine for playing in parts and using the mod wheel(all I need from it) and the keybed feels better than most of the under $500 midi controllers.

Any cheap(or used) synth with a midi output is all you need. Shop for best price

Re: Buying first time controller - recommendations?
I've got an M-Audio Oxygen 49...
Nice size (29" wide); big enough to be able to play without having to bank octaves, but small enough to fit in my smallish studio setup. Ex-wife (a classical pianist) says the action is not too bad. Has transport controls, sliders for mixing in Pro Tools, and knobs you can use for adjusting plugin parameters (although not real intuitive). http://keyboards-midi.musiciansfrien...ler?sku=423008 I'm very pleased with mine...
