DAE error 87 and -6 with playback of 24 bit files
Hey all. Ive been running m-powered 7.1 on an xp machine (1.6 gightz, 1.5 g ram, maudio 1814) for over a year with no problem. Now for some reason I go to open up a large session recorded at 48k and 24 bit and it opens...but when i playback it does not play, eventually giving me these two errors. To my knowledge nothing has changed, no settings...its like i was working on it one day and now its wont work. Oddly enough I was able to work on a session in 44.1/16. No apparent issues.
I know the error's point to a fragmented hardrive or not enough space, but ive tried to defrag...it isnt that. Ive also confirmed im using a NTFS hardrive...its just my local C drive...and my disc allocation is correctly set up. Again its worked with this gear up until now so I know it CAN work...i need to find out whats preventing it. Any ideas as to what could have changed in my machine that this is now happening? I;ve tried all basic general troubleshooting...looking for some expert advice. Thanks for all help. |

Re: DAE error 87 and -6 with playback of 24 bit files
Do you use your C:drive for both Protools and for recording. If so, this could be the problem. Digidesign says that you should use a separate drive for recording and editing your stuff. Maybe this is your problem.

Re: DAE error 87 and -6 with playback of 24 bit files
the way to fix it is by installing a separate hard drive for audio (as was mentioned above).
we have seen several posts like this lately, all of them with the same symptoms: Upgraded to 7.4 - it used to work fine on 7.1 - now it's not working. solution: get a separate hard drive for audio - don't attempt to use the C: drive - and don't try to "partition" it into a separate drive, because that is essentially still using the same "drive". hard drives are only $30 - a modest investment. avoid using USB drives - but firewire hard drives are acceptable. the best choice is either ATA or SATA internal hard drives. http://www.pricewatch.com/hard_remov...ata_40.0gb.htm @ $27.99 http://www.pricewatch.com/hard_remov...a_ata_20gb.htm @ $19.52 http://www.pricewatch.com/hard_remov.../sata_40gb.htm @ $29.99 http://www.pricewatch.com/hard_removable_drives/

Re: DAE error 87 and -6 with playback of 24 bit files
I have the same problem and I have two seperate physical drives. I am able to play almost all of the songs on one drive without the error, but not all. On my main drive I cannot play any of the songs at all without getting the error. I have reinstalled, formatted, defragged. I still have 51 gigs left on my drive and do not have anything running in the background while using Pro Tools. I have been using Pro Tools 7.1 for a few years now without any problems, I have not upgraded or added anything. It was working a week ago and then all of a sudden it won't work anymore. I can't figure it out and Pro Tools Tech isn't helping me at all, I've sent them a few emails and they're not answering my questions. HELP!
