Default How to build a miX System?

Hello guys like i said earlier i'm new to this forum and protools, i have a digi 002R and i was wondering what types of cards and interface would i need to make a mix system?

like what do i need a mix core and a farm card and that's it? or do i also need an interface? and is the mix system still being supported by digidesign?

i want o do this on a PC.

if you guys please be so kind and give a list of what exactly i need to get one going thanx......

Well...

Minimum setup would be Mix core and one 888 interface. That gives you 8 channels of analog or digital I/O. If you need more processing power then add farm cards and if you need more I/O then add second interface with Y- cable. Basically that's it.

Two places on the Digi website will give you much information about the discontinued Mix systems:

http://www.digidesign.com/compato/xp/mix/

and

http://www.digidesign.com/products/mix/

You can also probably download the 6.4.1 manual, which should tell all.

Track Count is from 64 voices and upto 96 or so (I don't remember well the Mix/TDM limits ).
(Check the 6.4.1 manual)

If I remember like HDs the trackcount barrier is core+mix farm. (any additional DSP simply gives more cpu but not voices, on HDs it's HDCore+HDAccel)

OS X...
You can work with Panther on G4s.
However G5s or Tiger are not supported.
On PCs however you enjoy faster cpus (though not officaly supported by Digidesign) & the Windows XP.

For Mix systems the Windows platform will give you more native processing which is great for Mix systems....

Just keep in mind that it'll be wiser to invest in HD rig because Mix TDM is discontinued so you're pretty much stuck with what they've got now.

Except of the track count the features you have compared to LE series aren't worth it for anyone...
