I guess if you need a portable external drive (and adding a FW card also increases the available FW bandwidth), but the cheaper and more immediate solution on a Mac Pro is just to add a couple internal SATA drives..

This does not help iMac users, who really only have the option to daisy chain FW drives in front of the interface..

He Sure got me; I thought the new imacs may have added something after seeing his post which is why I suggested he share; wouldn't that be a send out

imac to the external hard drive,
external hard drive to the 003 and boom works like a charm!

I tried to determine what chip set it has but the Iomega site is very sparse with technical information. It probably will work but it is recommended to use an Oxford chipset for the firewire enclosure interface. Most of us use Glyph or OWC drives that have proven to work well.

i think im gonna take a gamble and try it, i had a owc drive once, but that company hard horrible customer support so i refuse to ever buy from them again
