Difference is paying for 1 year at once or comitting to 1 year but paying monthly.

^^^ This is wrong.

The difference is the top one is for Perpetual licenses like yours to extend support plans (get updates throughout the year.)

The second is a subscription. NOT a perpetual license. Avid has been trying to push people into subscriptions and this is a dishonest way they do it. It shouldn't even be offered to you as you have a perpetual license. But they offer a new subscription license and it seems more attractive because it is a lower price.
But it has nothing to do with perpetual licenses.

The "or" in the first sentence of your screenshot explains this but is easily glossed over.

Basically with option 2 you give/sell your perpetual license back to Avid for a one time $100,- discount. After 1 year you are empty handed.

/edit: Update, no surrender needed(!)

I'm not aware of them requiring a license forfeiture? It will be out of date and locked to an old version limit but should still exist in your account. Right?

I don't think this requires license surrender, one hundred is not enough. If it is license surrender it must be like first year free subscription then sub fee after that.

This seems to be parallel plan next to the perpetual license that you cannot use with future versions unless update plan is renewed.

For the 1st option, this will renew customer’s support plan for his existing Pro Tools Ultimate perpetual license for 1 year.

As for the 2nd option, this is a NEW Pro Tools Ultimate paid upfront subscription.

This is NOT related with any licenses the customer has and he won’t surrender his existing perpetual license.

Hope that helps ll on this thread.

I stand corrected.

In the past it was called a crossgrade where you needed to surrender your license for the discount but I see this was discontinued in sept 2021.

Marianna,

This should be notated clearer on the user account. It is deceptive wording and offering and can mislead perpetual owners into committing to an additional Ultimate subscription license along with their already paid perpetual.

Also, both the renewal of the support plan and the subscription should be the same. Avid is basically penalizing perpetual owners for keeping the support plans current. There’s a clear need to be more transparent here.
