Re: Monitors in 2021
Don't listen to them. Because once you do, you can't unhear them, and you'll have trouble shaking the memory when every other transducer in the world pales by comparison.

Re: Monitors in 2021
Lol. I'm a big fan of coaxial speakers in general. Just hadn't seen Genelec offer them yet. But dang they are hella expensive.

Re: Monitors in 2021
I used Genelecs for years, they are great speakers, but I always found them a bit on the hot side in the treble.
Since I swapped to JBL's, I find I get a much smoother translation to cinemas. I suppose it makes sense, as cinemas predominantly have JBL systems in them and I guess the speakers are voiced similarly. I started with LSR6328p's cos I saw they were being used in a picture of a smaller room at Skywalker. Can't be bad if they're using them, no? I've now moved on to the 7 series and couldn't be happier. Of course other peoples mileage when it comes to speakers will vary massively.

Re: Monitors in 2021
Yep. With dual low frequency drivers to boot. Incredible speakers, impressive low frequency extension for their size and an almost unbelievably large sweet spot. Their sound doesn't really change, whether you are sitting a foot or 6 foot away from them, or an almost alarming number of degrees off axis. These things are smooooth from top to bottom. I didn't put much weight in the GLM room calibration feature to begin with, but having heard the difference a tiny few milliseconds of delay and a few dB of frequency notching makes, the difference between GLM turned off and on is pretty magical. It is like it removes the speakers from the soundstage entirely. Aren't cheap, but give 'em a listen if you get a chance. It will make the brightness of Genelec speakers a bit of a cliche.

Re: Monitors in 2021
everyone will recommend the speaker they are using at the moment. Kinda pointless IMO.
Get a stereo pair of some contenders into your room and do a proper test. Only way to tell for sure. On our HT Atmos room we did this with Neumann 420, JBL708 and Genelc S360. Neumann it was. Genelec great as well. JBL not in the same league. In your room it could be exactly the other way 'round. |

Right now I'm looking at replacing my Genelec 1031As with Nuemann KH120s based of recommendation from other guys who run small production trucks like the one I mix in. And now I'm thinking of building the world's smallest Atmos system in my truck using KH120s for LCR and KH80s for sides, surrounds and overheads.

Re: Monitors in 2021
Genelec 1031 was replaced with 8050 but in case you use subwoofer and do not want to destroy your hearing, ANY SIZE 8k model will give you same image over 80Hz so long as you stay 85-90dB SPL
Myself I have the 7060B sub and five 8040 satellites, but with this sub I could do just as good with 8020's
