Fades not working

Fades do not work on my PT 10.0.1. on Lion 10.7.3. They are greyed out in the menu and the shortcut does not work. Fades do work on sessions that I have received from professional studios, and on the Audrye Sessions that came with PT 10. They just don't work on any sessions I have made on my own computer. The fades did work previously with PT 8 LE. Are there any settings I should be checking? What can I do?

Something similar happens to me.

Pt 10 trial.
highlight beginning (or end) of clip, press F, nothing happens.

Hi all, I also have a problem with fades. I have created a new project and when it comes to creating a new fade it is drawn as normal. However, when playing back the audio, the fade isn't working. Any ideas why this isn't working? I have already tried trashing the prefs and re-starting my computer!

Im able to create and hear fades working properly within audio tracks, but not midi or instrument.

Is that an actual limitation? VERY hard to believe...

Hitting F and nothing happens, means the edit shortcut is not activated. You have to click on thr a..z button on the right up of the edit window. or hit cmnd+f (on Mac) or cntrl+f (on PC).

The problem here is your lack of familiarity with MIDI! View the volume control data on the MIDI track and draw a fade if you need one. What would you have a fade on a MIDI track do? Drop the fader? Well there is already a function for that. The fade function makes no sense in the context of MIDI. You need to learn how to use automation in ProTools.

I'm having this exact problem (and more) with sessions on Pro Tools 8HD. I made a new boot disk with a fresh install of pro tools and OSx 10.6.8 and the issue persists. Any Thoughts?
