Default "Older Version of Pro Tools" lie!

I'm trying to pull up a mix I did a while back, and it gives me "cannot open session because it was made on an older version of pro tools". I assure you it was done on my 003 rig v8.0 (PC), the same rig I've used for a year now. I'm now running HD 8.0.3 (mac) and was hoping against hope that it would pull up, but no go. I reeeeeealy don't want to mix it again, any suggestions?

Check that the file extension has not changed. File> import session data is the prefered method of importing a session.

worst case is you have to import the actual source material as audio and rebuild the tracks. If your going to remix it anyway this is not such a blow.

Yes, that error message is totally misleading. What it most likely means, unfortunately, is that the session file is corrupted; you may want to refer to backups if you have them.

Would you mind sending me the corrupt session file at pt_transfer at digidesign dot com? I would like to see what's happened, and I can see if there's anything available to recover.

I concur... why does that error message even exist, considering you CAN open sessions made in older versions?

The error is misleading, definitely. It's usually caused by corruption of the session - and the header that indicates which version of Pro Tools created the file.

If I'm not mistaken, we've implemented a different check scheme that should post a more appropriate error and will be included in future update to Pro Tools.
