Default 96i I/O no good? Apogee rosetta? Lynx aurora?

Am I being paranoid or is the digidesign 96i I/O not very good?

I'm using PT7 HD2 Accel PCIE, command 8 and genelec 8030 monitors.

Perhaps I *am* getting paranoid but I'm really beginning to think that my old 888|24s sounded better with my PT MIX PLUS at 48k than the 96i does at 96k with my HD2 system and this thought is just bringing me down.

I'm considering a switch to apogee. Probably rosetta 800.

Anyone have any thoughts?

I should point out that I'm an electronic musician using purely synthetic sources (old analog synths/drumboxes, a sequential prophet VS and newer digital things like clavia and elektron gear).

I point this out because I guess there is little incentive to buy something that does 192k as my gear is not spitting out much above 20k.

THANKS!

Donnacha.

Hi there,

i would not go so fare to say that digidesign's converters are sounding bad. However, we can easily agree that they are not State of the are or top of the line. Apogee's are a grand step up - the Rosetta 800's are great - we have 4 units and are very happy. today, I would get the AD-X 16 from Apogee instead of the rosetta's - from what apogee says: They are better...

another leap up the ladder would be PRISM - those I have never heard but form telling those are the finest converters that will fit in with the protools system...

Talk to your dealer, maybe he'll lend you some units for you to make your own decision

did you make any changes to your monitoring chain when you did you system upgrage?
did you keep your 888s? if you did you could connect one to the Legasy port of the 96i and compare straight up.

The 96i does not have a Legacy port. The 96 has a Legacy port.
