HUI Controller Personality Error on Load.
I have a Mackie controller and have had problems with intermittent connections. It turns out that I have been using the motor mix hui implementation and although worked it is probably the source of my problems.
Anyway.... I downloaded the HUI controller from the legacy downloads page version 6.4 and dropped it into the common files/digidesign/DAE/Controllers/ folder and deleted the motormix version now I get the error that pro tools cannot load the HUI controller. I am using PT 7.0 and have not done any CS updates. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Dave |

Re: HUI Controller Personality Error on Load.
The old driver isn't going to work. You need to use the driver that is installed with 7.0; the original driver you were using is the correct one.

Re: HUI Controller Personality Error on Load.
Thanks for the reply,
What is it called in 7.0? The only one I had was hui-motormix.dll. I actually called Mackie this morning and went through my problems with them. They suggested I need to use the HUI controller from 6.4 - Obviously this doesn't work. I have re-installed the hui-motormix.dll and my controller works. My problem is that the HUI looses contact with PT "No HUI Detected please connect and turn on" This hapens over a period of a couple of hours, maybe a half dozen times. Dave |

Re: HUI Controller Personality Error on Load.
The hui-motormix.dll profile is the correct one. Where are you connecting the MIDI? Have you tried different ports?

Re: HUI Controller Personality Error on Load.
Where do I start...
I run PT7 on a compaq centrino laptop, XP home, standard PC install (works great). I use a DIGI002 rack. I have spent a small fortune on Midi interfaces to try and fix this. I first had the MCU and connected it to the rack and this problem happened occasionally but just figured it was an odd quirk. I then purchased a new extender at a great deal brand new. This is when I realized I need a MIDI interfaces to install the second controller. I started with the M-audio 2x2, the problem showed up and on both units intermittently. I then purchased an Eidrol UM3ex. Same problem exists. It is hard for me to say if the problem has gotten worse as I was spending more time tracking last year and now that I have alot of material to deal with I am spending more time in mix mode and notice the problem more. I have asked this question in a few forums, including mackie, and have not had much luck. All drivers are the most recent. My Laptop is used for nothing more than recording with protools, no internet no network. drivers installed are only the ones for making the computer run protools and associated hardware. I actually upgraded to 7 from 6.9 hoping this would fix my problem as it was happening back then too. I have also done fresh installs of OS and PT to try to make this work. Let me know if you think of any thing else...I actually just adopted a computer I could run PT on I may try that and see if I have the same problem. Thanks again for the replys. Dave |

Re: HUI Controller loss of communication
I just finished talking to Mackie tech support again today. We have determined that my Compaq laptop irq sharing is probably causing my intermittent Hui disconnection. Can't verify/test until I set up PT on my older desktop for testing.
My Irqs share critical resources that possibly "interupt" a constant midi data stream that the HUI requires. see the list below IRQ 5 USB x 3 Adaptec PCMCIA Firewire card bus controller IRQ 10 Onboard firewire Radeon Video FYI: Mackie tech told me they never recommend using the MIDI on any audio interfaces if you don't have to. The constant streaming of audio through the shared irq leaves the midi vulnerable to drop outs. Does this make sense to anyone? I never really planned on having my laptop part of my mixing setup I guess now I will have to get that dual core sooner than later...we can always find an excuse to upgrade! later |

Same problems with my US2400. Tascam tech is baffled.

Re: HUI Controller Personality Error on Load.
Any fixes? I too upgraded to 7 from 6.9 hoping it would fix the problem but it didn't.
I'm *REALLY* F*****G annoyed. Now, a *very* specific question: When you setup the HUI as a control surface in the PT7 Setup/Periphericals menu, HUI shows for the Type. But what *EXACTLY* do you use for "Receive From" and "Send To"? The techie from Mackie I spoke to said that HUI should become available for both, but it doesn't. The only choices that I have, somehow logically, are all the MIDI ports from my Midisport 8x8 (MIDI Hub). I have the HUI connected to port 3, so if I select those, then I can move the faders on the Baby HUI, and it works, but every 10 seconds, a window pops saying that HUI cannot communicate with PT7. So it makes it indeed unusable. in addition, sliding the fader with the mouse does not control the actual fader as it should. Help greatly appreciated!
