Default pitch shift whole song

I tracked a simple song, two acoustic guitars, upright bass and vocal. We would now like to add a penny whistle. The problem is the song is in E and the whistle is in D.
I thought I would temporarily slow the whole song down, feed a monitor mix to the whistle player's head phone mix and record; afterward, I would just need to revert back to normal speed.
First, will this work?
Second, how do I do this?

thanks for the help.

Serato Pitch n Time Pro is the best for this, but you can try Elastic Audio(which also does Elastic Pitch). To avoid any unintended screwups, I would immediately go to File>Save As and give it another name(like "song in D"). Then enable Polyphonic Elastic Audio on your guitars, bass and vocal tracks, highlight all the audio and then right-click and select Elastic Properties. In the pitch window, set to -2 and play the session. Everything should now be 2 steps down. Use the same trick(but +2) to change the penny whistle up to E(unless everything sounds okay down).

Yeah Serato works. RX works. Even Waves Soundshifter

Since it doesn't sound like a permanent solution, quality wouldn't be paramount, since you will be removing pitch shift later. However, it would mean your whistle will need to be transposed in the end

You could consider using the best OFFLINE pitch correction software you can put your hands on, or outsource it to someone who has something like that. Since it seems to just one track and it's a whistle which generally aren't too complex harmonically speaking, you could just use a standard plugin.

Best to keep a backup of files and clearly labeled though so you don't make any regrettable mistakes.

Good advice already here but there's no need to mess with your original session.
Export your song as a stereo file, create a new session and import the file, enable polyphonic EA and right click on it, tune the song to -2 and record the whistle in a new track. Go back to your original session, import the whistle data (alt+shift+i) and apply +2 with X-form to the track.

albee's instructions are spot on but, I just tried this with an entire session,. Similar circumstances. Song was in A with a modulation to G in parts of the song. I did exactly as albee described. Results were much less than expected. Totally un useable! I don't know why Avid puts these aps in pro tools advertising them as a method to accomplish pitch change. It don't work!
