Re: Fan Noise for Mbox recording
what about a noise gate? Or does the fan bleed over your vocals when you sing?

Re: Fan Noise for Mbox recording
Yeah...the mic picks up the fan noise when I am recording vocals. I don't know what a noise gate is but I will check it out. Thanks for the G4 noise website. It's good to know others are already on top of this problem.

Re: Fan Noise for Mbox recording
If your Mac is one of the models for which Apple is offering the free fan upgrade, note that today (6/30) is the last day to apply for the upgrade.
There's a link on Apple's website to check the model/serial # and apply for the upgrade. |

Re: Fan Noise for Mbox recording
I searched Apple.com for nearly 40 minutes and couldn't find any references to a free fan upgrade. Do you have a more direct url?

Re: Fan Noise for Mbox recording
Hello. Newby here is a tip that sometimes brings acceptable results. For the most part this pertains to already recorded tracks, but I suppose it can be used for future stuff. Record about 1 minute or two of nothing but the fan. Try to get your room to have absolutely no other sound but the fan. Once you have your fan recording place it in the mix with your music takes that carry the offending fan noise. Now flip the phase on your fan only track. You'd be surprised at the results sometimes. This however is just a workaround until you solve the fan problem altogether.
By the way this is a tip for any home recordists or any room where the isolation is not quite what you want it to be. Record the room as it is, warts and all. Place it in a track and flip the phase.

Re: Fan Noise for Mbox recording
Fan upgrade from Apple only availaible for certain Apples mirror doors. Record vocals in another room by running longer mic cable. Mic positioning in the same room with G4 can help, then edit out no vocal parts and eq vocal parts. Or buy a silencecase and put you Mac in there.
