Unhappy PAL Firewire Video Playback in an NTSC Studio _ ! How ?

Working on a PAL Project , But I'm all NTSC. How do I play back a PAL video to my Plasma through my Canopus ADVC100 Firewire box...
Can I do this at all ?
Switched PT to PAL Quicktime plays fine inside protools on a 2nd monitor..
Switched the #6 Canopus dip switch to PAL, but PT still has Output to Firewire Greyed out... what settings do I need to make that function... is PAL still 720x480 ? or does the quicktime need to be something else ?
do i need to use a LCD monitor with an S-video input to even see the picture ? will any American TV or monitor be able to show the 25fps PAL video ?
What are my options ?

Anyone running PAL projects with external Firewire Video...

PT 8.01 8 core intel HD3 Canopus ADVC 100 OSX Leopard..

You've done pretty much everything correctly EXCEPT for the fact that you TV/Display panel is probably not Multisystem capable, so cannot display PAL or SECAM. That would explain why it shows up on your dual computer monitor correctly, but not on the TV....

I'm assuming you did everything else correctly. (frame rates etc). Did you 'reboot' the Canopus box? If you're changing the Dip switch to switch formats on the Canopus, you gotta either unplug the box and then reattach it, or just reboot the machine.

Good Luck.

Ok so I guess i need a $200 PAL to NTSC converter to watch the canopus PAL output on my Regular TV or Plasma.... but I'm still not able to get PT to output the Pal Video out to my Canopus.... I flipped the Dip switch rebooted it & my computer but output to fire wire is still greyed out ...... the quicktime is 25 Fps 720x480 .mov

First you got to get pro tools to output to canopus. I can't think of anything else than rescale your quicktime to 720 x 576, which is standard PAL.
After you're streaming to the canopus and still don't see anything, try browsing the setup menus on your plasma and see if there's a setting for "TV System" NTSC-PAL-SECAM-AUTO. Most modern screens should handle all formats.
Also, make sure the quicktime codec is DV-PAL!!!

It sound that the .mov is not a dv stream. This would grey out the "Play out Firewire" button.
We switch between PAL and NTSC all the time and there should not be a problem.
All of our monitors and plasmas will except both PAL and NTSC and will auto-select to the correct format.
