Now who can tell me why CD-quality audio is sampled at 44.1kHz (hint - its related)?

it doesn't have to do with NYQUIST and/or a certain SONY excecutive who wanted all of Beethoven's 9th on one disc?
No, although that makes for a great myth. NTSC video has 490 lines of visible picture per frame. There are 30 frames per second (humor me). 490*30=14,700 lines/second. CD quality audio is sampled at 44,100Hz. 44,100/14.700=3. The devices used to encode digital audio to U-Matic recorders encode three (3) 16 bit samples per line.
