This pop up prevents me from starting Pro Tools
Hello,
Thanks in advance for any help. I get the following pop up which I can't get past in order to open a new session: Session must be on an audio record volume. If permitted, set the volume(s) in question to "R" (record) in the Workspace. Thank you, Grateful My specs: Pro Tools LE 8 version 8.0 Mac OSX 10.5.8 Leopard 2.53 GHZ Intel Core 2 Duo Memory: 4GB 1067 Mhz DDR3 computer: Mac Book Pro |

Re: This pop up prevents me from starting Pro Tools
So you get this just launching the Pro Tools app? (Not launching by double-clicking a session.)
Was this working previously? How are the drives in this system formatted?

Re: This pop up prevents me from starting Pro Tools
Jeffro,
I did what you said and discovered that the R checkbox will work on the computer's internal drive. I can open a session on the internal drive. I was trying to save the session to an external drive made by Other World Computing (OWC). Isn't that what I ought to do? When I tried to check the R next to the external drive I got this pop up: OWC SETUP cannot be designated as an Audio Record volume because it is not a valid audio volume. I'm confused. I bought this 1TB ext. drive (OWC brand) to record my audio sessions onto. What do I do now? Last question. If this problem is fixed and I can use the OWC drive to record onto, should I also install my sound libraries on this same volume? Thank you so much, grateful |

Hi Jeffro,
You posted as I was writing and I saw it after I sent my last post. I am about to reformat the ext. drive. |

Re: This pop up prevents me from starting Pro Tools
If it's a new drive it might be formatted for Windows (e.g. NTFS)... check it in Disk Utility, and erase/format for Mac if needed.
As far as storing your sound libraries, factors include drive speed as well as if your VIs load samples in memory vs stream from disk. If the the latter then it might be better to have them on another drive. Others might chime in with their experience if you can share more detail about your setup and what you want to do.
