Jeff just so you know on my studio system (iMac intel below ) Actually the problem was persistent even after initial launch after install and no Carbon was not listed in the playback window on subsequent launches NOTE I always have carbon powered on before powering the iMac, and only after repeated powering Carbon off and on and same with computer and holding the N key on PT launch, SOMETIMES Carbon would show in playback engine box

And I would always make sure that Carbon was selected in Audio Midi and in Mac sound

Then out of desperation I trashed PT preferences and it now appears to be working so I will try for a few days and report back (as I always shut down entire system at night)
UPDATE. I have completely shut down and rebooted the entire system 3 or 4 times now, and so far trashing preferences seems to have done the trick (fingers crossed)

Thanks for the additional info. I know Mark is keeping an eye on these issues - between Pro Tools macOS changes , I believe we have some fixes coming.
