Default Pro Tools Duet by Apogee drivers and setup

I recently aquired a 'Pro Tools Duet by Apogee' interface to use with my PT 12.5 system on Windows 10. I had previously been using an Avid Mbox 3 which worked very well.
I downloaded and installed the latest drivers (1.0.14). I also updated the firmware for the interface.
All worked fine on 44.1kHz, but when I opened a 48kHz session it refused to launch. I checked the Panel IO and it wouldn't let me change the setup from 44.1khz. Not until I exited ProTools completely, and then I could change the sample rate via Panel to 48kHz and then the session would open.
Is this normal behaviour ? i.e. do I have to close PT completely every time and change the sample rate to that of the session before relaunching PT and then the session will open?
I never had to do this with the MBox 3. I could open whatever session and it would simply accommodate it. Are there I/O settings that need changing?

Hi welcome to DUC.

You may have something else using the interface holding the sample rate at that value. Make sure that Windows sound and other apps are not using the interface. Pro Tools should just be able to set the sample rate it needs when you open a session, without you doing anything else.

What *exact* errors did you get when things did not launch?

You are taking some considerable risk with these interfaces and Avid no longer supporting them.

Thank you very much for the reply Darryl.

The message I get when opening a session of 48k is:

The current playback engine does not support a sample rate of 48kHz.

You are absolutely right though, if one accesses the 'Sound' Control Panel in Windows and makes the Playback anything other than Pro Tools Duet, then you can open sessions of differing sample rates with no problem. So, yes it appears that Windows was forcing it to stick on a specific sample rate.

I don't regret aquiring this interface because the sound quaility is superb, and now I know about the settings it's no problem at all. Pity that there wasn't a manual or a setup guide (other than the flimsy bit of paper). It would have been good to alert people of this and also suggest buffer settings. (Apogee suggest 128k in the only scant information on their website.

Thanks again Darryl for your help. Much appreciated.
