Plug instances, how many w/ G5 DP

Hi all,

I'm considering getting a PT 002 Rack and a G5 dual processor. I'm concerned about how many plugin instances I'll be able to get with the G5. Can anyone tell me how many plugins they can get before the CPU maxes out and what kind of plugin your using (EQ, comp, gate, etc...)?

If you're using the Digirack plugins you'll have no problem putting 2 eq's a compressor etc. etc. on 32 tracks at 96k or 48k. Plus three stereo reverbs and about 4 delays at 48 and about half of that at 96k. If you use other plugins it depends on the type. You do get a lot though and the computer still runs really smoothly and responsively.

Lets put it this way. If you ever run out of CPU by the amount of plug-ins your running, even in a very heavy real world session with a DP G5 - your doing something very wrong...

Is it much different with a single G5? I heard the second processor only gives you a 15 to 25% increase.

I am looking to get the single 1.6 G5

I think one thing to consider is that over time Pro Tools may get optimized for G5 which will give you more resource.

I can't see that happening anytime soon. I think a single G5 is the way to go until a dual processor is completely utilized, especially if they come out with a single 2.0.

Does anyonr know what the plug-in instances are like with any Waves products and G5's?
