HDX driver not loading

I have the solution to this issue if it happens to you. Read on.

I have a 2022 Mac Studio Ultra. I was running PT 2024.6 and one HDX card in a Sonnet chassis under OSX 14.5 . My ethernet port stopped working and I was waiting until I would have some down time to get it repaired.

They thought it would just be an I/O replacement at the Apple Store, but it turned into needing a new logic board. All under warranty. However, when I got the computer back, it had OSX 14.6.1

No matter what I did, the HDX driver would not load. Avid support had me got through a bunch of things and concluded that since 14.6.1 was not yet supported, I needed to roll back my OSX.

Apple support also had me try a bunch of stuff and concluded that I would need to wipe the drive, create a bootable install drive with Ventura. Apparently, Apple only makes the latest version of each OSX available, so I could not get OSX 14.5. Fine.

Did all that. Just to put it into context, this means you spend another big chunk of time and then there's reauthorizing a number of plugins that see this new logic board as a brand new computer. Toontrack is particularly slow if you have a lot of their products.

Anyway, the driver would still not load. Apple said to take it up with Avid. Who said to take it up with Apple. SOOOOO....

I did some reading which led me to the Startup Security Utility by holding down the power switch and selecting it from the menu in the upper left.

Then the driver loaded and everything is fine. I'm kind of surprised that neither of the two support people I was working with did not direct me to do this, so I'm posting it in case the issue comes up for anyone else.

This is 101 for installing the Avid HD driver on Apple Silicon Macs. If the Avid support team didn't mention this step, then they failed. The only thing I can think of is that they assumes that since it's the same computer, just repaired, that it wouldn't need to be done again, which is obviously not true if there's a new logic board.

Well now I'm really annoyed. I spent over an hour with Avid support. Anoterh hour with Apple, and then had to reinstall everything again when that should have been the first thing they checked. GRRRR! Really what is my $400 yearly renewal good for.
