Wow… That’s not very nice. How do you expect anyone to try to help you if you won’t even supply the basic details of your system and versions. 🤦🏻*♂️

Yes I was on a particularly short fuse yesterday, apologies to all.

I *have* been through all of this before though: I had a man from Avid try a bunch a stuff on my comp, I took the time to make a video demonstrating the issues, I sent them the Tools file for analysis etc - so it’s not like I haven’t already contributed a fair chunk of my time trying to help get to the bottom of this. I’d be happy to shrug my shoulders and say “it’s a one-off” if it weren’t for the fact that it’s happened again on a completely different system with a completely different Tools session.

Of course we all should only post with system info, thorough description of problem, and steps to repro, but you have to admit the rollout of Melodyne ARA has been quite rocky, with so many unpredictable/weird bugs, it's enough to test anyone's patience. I don't know what the beta team's doing, but this has surely not been well vetted prior to release - after what, 6 months? A year? - I'm still finding ARA bugs that will destroy hours/days of work. And yes, I do report cases to TS when I can clearly describe and reproduce (see my post from earlier today for one).

A clear technical description of how the ARA system works, how ARA data is stored and what affects it would help us to figure out what's going on with some of these data loss issues.

^^^ yes. There is generally too many changes that are happening in Pro Tools that seem not so well announced and not well documented/explained. And too many changes that are breaking things. The changes in plugin caching over the last half year is another example. Lots of users are still unaware of them. And the changes, while sure seem to be a great direction, have caused folks problems.

I hope Avid product/engineering management is on top of this, the good intentions and efforts here are really being impacted by problems. None of this stuff just happens, it's a management and process issue.

There was a time when Avid/Digidesign published 'white papers' with in depth technical info - for example the details of the math in the mix engine, and there was this excellent webcast about the video engine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6gxLZid2VR4

This kind of info is essential for professional users to understand the tools we use, and can be tremendously helpful in chasing down unexpected behavior - I haven't seen anything like this for years from Avid. And yes, it comes from Management, and the current management of the beta process seems pretty woeful.
