Default Vox delay trick on the last word of each phrase

What is the best way to achieve a delay on just the last word(s) of a phrase? I've heard the done a lot, and it's especially nice if the song has pauses between certain lines.

The peace I'm working on has a very fast delivery followed by pauses every so often after the last word. So what would give me the best results for going up just delaying the last word of each phrase? Thanks.

Automate a delay's bypass function. Keep it bypassed until the word you want to add the effect to, then bypass again before the next word happens.

If your delay is on a Aux bus, then just automate the send level of your vocal track to that delay bus.

You could also just highlight the word and use audio suite.

I have a (audio) delay track below the main vocal track and just copy regions to it.

yep, that's what I did as well, just copied the regions I wanted and made it 100 % wet. This worked well too because then I automated the panning and came out nice. But I just figured it was more work done than needed to be.

As far as automating the delay itself, I tried doing that been it then cuts off the delay as well, and there are parts where the delay is supposed to overlap the vocals following it so it didn't achieve the desired results. Overall I am quite happy with what I ended up with but it was a bit of time consumer.

thanks for the input.

As Slim suggested - the best way is to create a send to an AUX track with the delay inserted on it. Automate the send on the vocal track that way it will overlap your other vocal if you want.

I wouldn't use the audiosuite idea, because you will have to cut off the tail of delay when the next vocal comes in.
I wouldn't use a spare audio track underneath, because it's a waste of a track . Aux's don't count as voices.
