What occurs at this point exactly when it doesn't boot up? Is there an error message or dialog?

6.9 was a good release by the way with a very snappy and responsive U.I.

This indicates your driver wasn't installed properly. What version of XP Pro are you using? SP1, 2, or 3?

Since the hardware driver didn't seem to install, I would reinstall Pro Tools then check Device Manager to make sure it's there.

I would try to test the 002 on another system as they are notorious for the power harness issue as mentioned. Then I would pop in the Pro Tools disk and then go to Control Panel>System>Hardware>Device Manager and find the 002 with the yellow exclamation mark, then right-click and choose Update Driver. Choose "install automatically" and see if it finds the driver from the disk. Or right-click and uninstall it, then reinstall. Spending all this time, will suck if you come to find out that the power harness is the problem all along.
