Cool, I look forward to hearing how the 5770 works for you, Zang.

I'm still getting some problems here and there but nothing major. The most noticable is sometimes when dragging a window it will stick for a split second mid drag. Or when opening a folder the open animation will stick for a split second.

I guess 100% perfection can't be expected from a 6 year old computer. :)

I found another solution on another thread here that works well, although it's just a band-aid fix. It get's rid of all the lag, though.

If you're signed up as an Apple developer, download Graphics Tools here...
developer.apple.com/downloads/

If you're not, it's free to register.

Run Quartz Debug and disable Beam Sync (vsync).

You may see some screen tearing when moving windows, but you won't have lag. Also, you have to disable Beam Sync every time you restart as it doesn't save its settings.

Excellent! Yeah, it makes a pretty big difference. Hopefully Apple will fix the issue.

It looks like 10.10.3 has fixed the GUI lag issues. Even my GT120 is performing fine now.

EDIT: Could have also been the latest nVida driver, too.
