Re: Kernel Panic with Mbox2 USB
For me, It's not 10.4.11, and it's not 7.4. I have a digi 002r and my MBP never crashes. When I recently picked up the mbox micro, I now get intermittent crashes. Usually right about when or seconds after I plug in the micro but it doesn't happen all the time, so I think it's a driver issue. The Micro documentation says (if memory serves) that it installs the Mbox 2 driver.

Re: Kernel Panic with Mbox2 USB
Nope. I use the standard speakers. The micro can only be listened to by headphone so it kinda defeats the purpose.

Re: Kernel Panic with Mbox2 USB
Still the same here... And Digi sleeping...
And yes, it happens when Mbox2 is set as main output in Preferences... Next time, I'll spend my money on soundblaster!!! Leopard support... well, still waiting...

Re: Kernel Panic with Mbox2 USB
I get the kernal panic when i close certain apps - usually firefox or adium when i have been using my micro, but i have never had it when using my mbox 2 pro - the only difference between them is that the mbox is connected over the firewire and the micro over USB... so it seems to be the I/O drivers conflicting with something in the land of USB... and yes, in that helpful way, its totally intermittent!
I thought at first it was because I'm using Leopard (10.5.1) but so many other people are having it too... really no idea! |

Re: Kernel Panic with Mbox2 USB
Bought my 15" MBP January 0f 2007 and almost immediately, went into Mac Hell. Kernel Panics constantly, not specifically related to (Original) MBox and PT use, Safari, or anything. Kept a log for many, many months. Dealt with AppleCare many times (one really knowledgeable tech guy in particular), and after getting rid of older versions of apps (either originally ported over from my non-Intel MacMini or simply not Intel or Universal versions), tweaking things constantly, sending my MacBook Pro into Apple to be looked at and fixed not once, but TWICE (nothing fixed the problem), I took the plunge and upgraded to OSX 10.4.11. I then also upgraded from PT LE 6-something to LE 7.4. Since then - and I'm crossing my fingers as I type this - no kernel panics. Not sure what actually fixed the problem, but I'm betting on 10.4.11 or 7.4. Something's much more stable, something got cleaned up. Not asking any questions, believe me! I suggest you try my solution, although, of course, there are no guarantees.

Re: Kernel Panic with Mbox2 USB
I have fallen victim to this same issue. Here is a link to my initial post on the matter (didn't find this thread until now!)

Re: Kernel Panic with Mbox2 USB
This is a known issue with some devices and certain OS versions. Using 10.4.11 should help, but may not completely resolve the kernel panics. It's best to follow the instructions I gave above when dealing with these devices to avoid kernel panics.

Re: Kernel Panic with Mbox2 USB
Running OSX 10.4.11, MacBook Pro 17", 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4Gigs RAM, Pro Tools LE 7.4 cs3 (updated to cs4 today) experiencing Kernal Panics randomly, consistently with both Mbox Micro and Mbox2 Pro... happens mostly when I click on a tab or a link in Safari or Firefox.... or when I go to shut down the computer... will try the Digidesign suggested "work around"..... very annoying!
