Build your own isolation rack case?
Hi all,
I'm trying to reduce the noise in my control room and I'm finding that my PC fans and hard drives are making quite a bit of noise, making mixing at lower volumes really hard. I'd like to get an isolation rack case so I can have my computer, drives, interfaces, etc. in the same room, but to shut them up. The isolation racks I've seen from Raxxess, KK Audio, and Sound Construction and Supply are nice but pretty darn expensive... Has anyone built their own isolation rack? Any tips/suggestions? Thanks in advance, Brian |

Re: Build your own isolation rack case?
Search the DUC. This has been covered here a lot in the last few years.
See http://www.barnabas.com/sound/ for my tip page, which hasn't been updated in a while.

Re: Build your own isolation rack case?
What kind of room is next door to your control room? I have heard of guys cutting a small hole in the wall and feeding the computer lines through the hole. It is typically in a closet or a small opening somewhere. It is effective and saves you the cost of an iso case. Obviously, cutting a hole in the wall is not possible for everyone.

Re: Build your own isolation rack case?
Thanks for the tip/link, Barnabas. I actually found some stuff on the DUC once I realized that the default for searching is now "exact phrase."
storm-01, I do have a closet-type space next to the control room, but I'm not too sure about the airflow in there, and I don't want my gear overheating, ya know? Plus it would be nice to be able to have quick access to the CD-R drive, etc. I'll do some reading and get back to y'all! Thanks, Brian |

Re: Build your own isolation rack case?
Have you ever thought of getting a liquid cooled case? It would cost as much if not less than an isolation case. It would be extremely quiet too.

Re: Build your own isolation rack case?
I've been researching liquid cool solutions. Do you have any links to companies that may specialize in liquid coolers for DAW machines?
Thanks

It might be worth looking at these folks too. http://www.acoustilock.com/
Might be pricey, but it's nice stuff.
