I'm running a 2008 2.8gHz 8-Core Harpertown with Mavericks and PT11 just fine.

I have a Mac Pro 1,1 2.66GHz Woodcrest with W7 64, W8 64 running PT HD 10.8.3 and PT HD 11.1.2. All runs fine on this older system. I have yet to try it with OS X Mavericks, but others like Tim above will chime in to confirm. There's still some life left in these older systems.

I have a 1,1 and can't 10.8 to run on it. How are you installing it, etc?
Thought I read that 10.8 is 64 bit and the 1,1 can't run a 64bit OS.
Do tell

A 64-bit computer that can't run a 64-bit OS is just wacky artificial crippling by Apple. Both W7 64 and W8 64 run very well on these old machines with no issues. You'll have to do some command line work. I've yet to try Mavericks on my old 1,1 but search and you will find. There's still some life left in these.

I have installed Mavericks on my MacPro 1,1 with no trouble whatsoever a few weeks ago (you have to make your own USB installer with a few modifications on it, nothing unfeasible though, and have a "mavericks-compatible" video card, like the ATI 5770). 10.9.2 runs on this machine like a charm. I recently switched back to ProTools from Digital Performer 8 for a number of reasons, and my MacPro 1,1 is relevant again, both with 10.9.2 and PT 11.1.2 Couldn't be happier actually.
