Default Fun with GPIO

[FUN WITH GPIO]

Let's take a closer look at working with GPIO triggers - specifically GP Inputs, using some scrap wood and a few dollars worth of arcade switches. :)

We can assign EUCON or Surface functions (or stacks of them) to up to 8 different GP Inputs accessed via Settings > Soft Keys > Master Module GPIO. For this example, we are sticking entirely to Surface functions so that we can pick off and sum sources which ultimately feed into a talent cue which are part of our MTRX Monitor Profile in DADman.

We've also created local Soft Keys using the Automation Module > User Pages to mirror some of the sources and stacks we created with the GPI's. Lastly, Track Layouts (accessed within a Spill Zone) are often the best way to quickly get to collections of faders contained within Pro Tools, and from within the MTRX Monitor Profiles.

Default Managing Memory Locations

[MANAGING MEMORY LOCATIONS]

Let's take a closer look at working with Memory Locations on S4 • S6 - including Markers, Selections, Track Views and Window Configs. There are 3 basic ways to access Memory Locations via the Soft Keys:

(1) Press the Mem Loc switch from the numeric section on the Automation Module. This uses a single quadrant to show Memory Locations in chunks of 10 spanning 10 pages.

(2) Hold Shift while pressing the Mem Loc switch to access 48 vertically oriented locates, then page to access locates 49 - 96.

(3) Hold Shift while pressing the - switch on the numeric section to get a combination of Memory Locates and Automation functions. 24 vertically oriented locates are on the Left with Auto1 and Auto2 defaulting to the right side.

These are always great Jeff, more please!

I didn't know you could delete memory locations like that for some reason.

Hi,

Since a recent update to Big Sur, the folder tracks option no longer displays in the Extras soft key window. I'm pretty sure it was there before the update.

Greetings,

The connected workstation(s) have no effect on the default Soft Keys that are presents on the Master and Automation Modules. If you are indicating that your Extras panel on the Automation Module doesn't show a Folders icon and page link then I would recommend pressing Factory to load the default Soft Keys. Make sure to save first if you've made any modifications.

Those Folder Track Soft Keys were first introduced in S4/S6 2020.5 for reference.

best,

Jeff

Thanks Jeff. I tried loading the factory default but the Extras panel doesn't display the folders icon.

If you are running S6 20.5 or higher you should be able to press Default or simply load a soft key set. Import was added in 20.11 -> in which case you would press Import then navigate to the S6_ProTools21Mac.xml.

Default Attention Presets in Detail

[ATTENTION PRESETS]

Let's take a closer look at leveraging Attention Presets from S4 • S6 version 2021.6. In a nutshell, Attention Presets are simply a chain of Surface Soft Keys to quickly modify the functions and behaviors which are triggered on attention for the Attention Knobs, Attention Faders, Master Module plus setting the designation for where items clicked from Pro Tools are placed on the surface.

Six Presets and Six alternates are accessible from the Default Soft Keys pages on the Automation Module > Extras. For example, Preset 2a would serve to change the following settings on the Home > Local Options page to populate top level Inserts (Any) into the 1st Knob Module, Sends into the 2nd Knob Module, EQ into the Expand Faders, and Sends into the Master Module:

Alternates simply swap the function which was displayed in Knob 1 into Knob 2.

Presets can be easily modified by simply accessing Settings > Soft Keys > Automation Module Soft Keys > then touch the virtual button adjacent to any Preset to show a chain of 5 Surface functions presented below which can be touched and modified.

Attention Presets

Finally, I've also included the Pro Tools Session which contains several Custom Maps which were used and described in the above video to help get a better idea of how these tools can be used.

Attention Presets Pro Tools Session

** Updated the video which had some schmutz in it and I'll be adding various additional example maps into the demo session as well. **
