Default For once and all . I\'m stuck ina dilemma.

If you guys have noticed I've been posting here alot lately about my pc and issues with pro tools. I have a hp pc with vista and ptle 7.4, 2 gigs of ram and 2.6 ghz. processor. But i'm having some serious buffer issues. I recently found out that i have one of those 430 chips that some people have been having problems with according to digi. Now my first thought was to get a new motherboard that has a chip that's compatible but i know that there's a chance that might not solve my problem. And i don't want to waste 400+ on motherboard, video card.. when i can get a digi qualified 8500 inspiron laptop on ebay for that same price. But i just spent almost 600 on this new hp pc. I don't know if it's vista my pc or pt 7.4 that's causing these issues and that's fustrating. I did all the windows cinfigurations and my performance has improved a little but now where it should be.I don't know if the fact that i don't have an external hardrive are causing these problems I don't know if i need more memory but i just don't think so. If i add one reverb to a beat i've tracked from my fantom x and try to adjust in real time pro tools freezes and studders and i have to press the space bar repeatedly to unfreeze it. On my old pc i had a pentium processr with 512 mg of ram and i could add all kinds of effects without studders. What should i do?

I'm one of probably 90% of people reading this that stopped reading once it said you were using Vista. Switch back to XP. Nobody can help you with Vista, and all indications suggest it's not ready for professional use of any kind yet. You'll undoubtedly have trouble with the laptop with Vista too.

Some Quick and simple observations here:

A: I would get ride of Vista and Install XP.

B: You need to get another 7200rpm hard drive to record to.

C: if the Chipset the Nivida 430 is incompatiable with PTLE than I would be buying another motherboard as albee1952 posted for you in this thread as to what he is using.

How about this motherboard for my pc?

Also I don't see how you say that this mother board costs $400.00 you know as well as the rest of us that motherboard costs:
ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI MCP ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail

Only $129.00.

And I guess if you need a Videocard here:
EVGA 256-P2-N615-TX GeForce 7600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 SLI Supported Video Card - Retail

OR:

Leadtek PX8600GT TDH GDDR2 GeForce 8600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail

So I guess that the answers are all here already right?

Merry Christmas!

My machine came pre installed with vista and i can't get xp on it because they don't make xp drivers for my pc. which sucks. I know the obvious solution would to get a new motherboard but i don't want to buy another one and have the same problems.

I have read through all of your other posts on this problem.
And several people have tried to tell you the same things to fix this situation as I did.
You SEEM to not to want our advice.
SO I will assume that you will fix this yourself!

Lol! How did you get the impression that i don't want your help. I wouldn't have asked if i didn't want your help. But it seems like everybody saying that i should downgrade to xp but i can't my pc does not have xp drivers to downgrade to xp. therefore that's out of the question. I'm in college. don't have alot of money i and I haven't heard anybody say that a new motherboard would surely fix my problem with pt, that's why i keep asking so that maybe somebody has the same problem as me and knows exactly what the problem is. But damn man "I will inform everyone else that you no longer need our help" is taking me asking questions out of context.

All Starscream is saying is that you aren't taking the advice given to you here.

In your words , it's "out of the question"

obsuleet:
You do understand that you'll have to BUY XP, right? They aren't gonna give it to you... If you're looking for actual solutions, they've been offered several times.

1. Vista will work with PTLE 7.4, but you'll be on the bleeding edge and not many here will have advice for you consequently. Go find an XP disc for sale and determine your best method for making that work; new HD with XP install saving the Vista install for "that glorious day when all the fairy dust has been sprinkled", dual boot, flat-out wipe of Vista in favor of XP; your call.

2. The chipset problem, if it is a problem, is not going to go away. Period. You have to solve that or you're just banging your knuckles with a crowbar; it'll feel so good when you stop, BTW. Apparently, you failed to do the compatability research before you bought the PC, now you're paying the price. I mean this with the love... I've been through the compato problem myself. I see reference to albee's board; if his works, yours should also work. But you will have to BUY it.

3. If anyone along the way has advised you that you can record to the system drive without issue, THEY WERE LYING. You will need to BUY or steal a second drive to run without issue. Assuming you do an external drive, pay attention to the drive's FW chip (Oxford 911, etc.). If you can stuff one in the HP case, get the type that the PC runs (IDE, SATA, PSATA, etc.), it's cheaper.

Now having said all that, nice job on posting the SANDRA report.

I understand the starving student thing. Life comes without guarantees. You will have to spend more dough in any event, and it's a crapshoot to some extent.

Luck.
