Default HP Z4/6 Spec

Hi,

I'm fairly new to PT and looking at buying a compatible HP desktop.

The Avid supported spec for processors for the Z6 & Z4 is as follows:

HP Z6:
Dual 14-Core Intel Xeon Gold 6132 2.60 GHz
Dual 16-Core Intel Xeon Gold 6226R 2.90 GHz

HP Z4:
Single 8-Core Intel Xeon W-2145 3.7 GHz
Single 8-Core Intel Xeon W-2245 3.9 GHz
Single 12-Core Intel Core i9-10920X 3.5 GHz

But the Z6 I'm looking at is using a Xeon Gold 5122 3.60GHz.

And the Z4 is using a Intel Xeon Silver 4108.

Does anyone know if these work ok with the latest version of PT Studio?

Thanks for any help.

The Xeon Gold 5122 should work fine since it is in the same Skylake family of processors. The big difference is that the 5122 only has 4 cores. So, it would really come down to how big your sessions are and how much processing power you need.

The Xeon Silver 4108 is a pretty slow processor by today's standards, so again, it comes down to how taxing your sessions are.

You could also look at something like the Sweetwater Creation Station which uses more modern processors and which they offer support for if you run into issues.

Just my 2 cents; I would skip any system that runs below 3GHz. My preference would be to stick with 3.5GHz and faster(even if that means fewer cores). My old HP z820 with dual 6-core XEON's @3.5GHz ran like a train
