Default The future of 5.1 in ProTools...Now Mixing in LE systems!

Anybody check out http://www.neyrinck.com/index.html to see the new 51MIx plugin from Neyrinck? It finally happened; you can now mix 5.1 in ProTools LE. I'm actually quiet shocked that Digidesign didn't release a 5.1 system for its Digi003 box. This was a HUGE mistake in my opinion. Apple just released their 8-core systems that are super powerful. So why now should I want to buy an HD ProTools system?

Well, I like have 128 busses on HD and more than 32 tracks. Trust me, when you're doing a full film mix, especially in true 5.1, you go through busses like popcorn for your quad/LCR predubs, pan sends, 5.1 printmasters, etc... and that's not to mention busses used for Aux sends and sidechains.

That Neyrinck plugin, especially for the price, has me interested though for my personal 003 workstation. Will still go HD though when I've got the money and setup for it. Nothing beats HD's raw power.

I agree with regards to the need for HD in actual full mixing situtions. The new 5.1 stuff from Neyrink is will really help LE systems, including mine, however there is a distinct difference between HD and LE systems themselves when it comes to mixing in surround. Its really like compairing apples and oranges. The full movie mix I just finished in 5.1 needed 128 voices on 5 DBP chips, and when you roll in all the plugins I use, (which you need the TDM DSP power for) I completely maxed out my 1 core and 3 accel cards, and used most of the DSP on 3 extra old process cards...

So, as stavrosound said... trust him, LE doesn't touch HD when you are doing a full mix. It just doesn't have the Horse-Power.

Mix 51 is a convenient plug-in enabling you to work on small surround projects with Pro Tools LE systems. Mix 51 is not intended to be a replacement for Pro Tools HD.
