Simple (?) Playback Issue- LE 6.8.1, Tiger 10.4.2

Hello-- I installed Tiger 10.4.2 and then the MBox II package, containing LE 6.8.1 ...

The software loads properly (seems to at least), the demo session loads fine, importing files happens without a hitch,,
except that there is absolutely no playback volume at all. The levels fluctuate in the meters visually but I can't hear a thing...
The sound plays fine in any other program but ProTools.

So I'm wondering, did I overshoot by buying the latest version of Tiger? Or is this a simple hardware setting I can control?

I checked, and both A and V in the workspace are set to "record."

And for some reason, free upgrades to 6.9.2 are only offered for 6.7 and .9, but not .8 users? Or can a free upgrade from .8 be obtained via request form?

So I'm wondering which way to go, upgrade is essential or should I knock some things around in my computer?

Sorry if any of this is redundant, I'm new to the digi world

6.8.1 is the only release which should work with Mbox 2. ProTools LE 7 should be out pretty soon, and it will be a free upgrade.

But it doesn't sound like a bug requiring an update - this sounds more like user error. Have you opened a mixer window, and verified that the Master fader is up?

Hey-- thanks very much for the info about compatability.

The master fade is up; So far I've just opened a few files in tracks and tried to play them (the waveform shows up-- all the tools seem to work) as well as the demo session. The levels are set just as they were saved in the demo session, and the vu meters show activity...

Erg. I don't understand why I can't hear anything.

MBox is lit up like it should be, and last night the initial verification went fine.

Not one error message, cpu usage looks fine, no odd ticks or delays, just no sound.

I have a feeling that it should have worked right away... I'll look again to make sure the program is communicating with the other parts of the computer it needs to, but any more suggestions or thoughts would be great, if ya have 'em.

Tiger 10.4 will only allow PT 6.9.2 to run 6.8.1 shouldn't have even loaded from what I have experienced. you can call customer service. You'll most likely need to register the product and ask for the upgrade to 6.9.2 (for me they sent the 6.9 disc to install instead of the one with my product and the upgrade to 6.9.2.)

Also as stated PT7 will be a free upgrade to registered users who purchased after sep 1, 2005 so that should solve the problem also.
I don't know how the upgrade to 7 will work I believe I read that they will email you with the upgrade.

Also make sure that you are connecting the monitors to your MBOX2 if I remember correctly it doesn't play back from your computer monitors.

No insult intended, but you do have headphones or monitors connected to the Mbox 2, right? ProTools sound doesn't come out of the computer's sound system.

HAHAHAHA. No offense taken, but I AM an Idiot. Wow. You guys rock, though. Thanks for taking the time. Every other program I have has just used the computer's sound system. So I feel dumb. I haven't tried it yet but that's gotta be it.

(6.8 does work with Tiger thru MBox II, unless I can't get any signal from monitors hooked up to the box, but I'm guessing I will...)
