Default Pre-Amp / AD for my SPDIF inputs on Digi003

Hi DUCers,

I'm thinking of using the SPDIF inputs on my 003 for recording voice in a small studio.
Can you recommend any combination of pre-amp and AD converter? Or something combined in one unit?
I'm looking for something that I can use to color the tone a little, like a tube preamp.
As far as price is concerned: It matters!
So, I am not thinking about something from Avalon or Neve or Apogee. I was more looking for SPL Goldmike or Presonus TubePre with a RME ADI2 or something similar.
Any recommendations?

Thanks a lot, as always!

Andy

Joemeek TwinQ has 2 channels, EQ, and Compression, Shop around, you can get them new for around $700 w/o the mic package.

The Envoice MK II is a good channel strip and easy to handle and possibly in your price range.

The Eureka is also very good.

I use the presonus eureka with the optional card. If you get 2 of them you get 2 more channels

Thanks a lot! I've looked at all three (dbx, eureka, envoice).
Do I understand correctly that I need the additional AD card for the eureka while dbx and envoice ("digital edition") have built-in AD converters?
I'm a little in favor for the mindprint, simply because it has a lower price.
One general (maybe a little dumb) question:
Why do I need an EQ and compressor on the input side of the DAW? Isn't there the risk to "over-commit" to something I cannot correct later?

The card is optional for the Eureka. For the Envoice as well (I have got one without). But there were some good deals for the Mindprint lately that included the card.

A channel strip just gives you more options to adjust the signal coming in. Just don't overdo especially compression. If you use an outboard compressor and slam the signal, it is very difficult to correct ITB.
