Dism I sub'ed your ytube channel, this is absolutely awesome. Any other workflow booster vids you wanna make I'll be there! Thanks again for posting this...

I have PT10 now, but have 9 on my MBP. Will give that a try next.

I never really needed VCAs or the extra tracks or 7.1 in CPTK at this point. So if I can figure out a way to nail the copy-from-RAMDISK-at-session-close part, this will work a treat!

BTW melodisk that utility worked pretty well for me on Lion. Gave me a GUI for setting the size in MB or GB (you have to hold down option key when you run it or it sets a default ramdisk size of 65mb).
im glad to help

Stumbled on this which can create a file system link that redirects to a ramdrive...which purports to sync back to the original location. May be a longshot, but might be worth checking out.

UPDATE: It installs in mandarin but has English mode, but only does the "sync" when you unmount the Ramdisk, so it's not really quite as automated as I thought. It is interested how it can create a file-path that is redirected to a Ramdisk though. PT10 could always be "thinking" it's launching a session from my Tracking drive, but it's really opening/running from a ramdisk. I'll play with it, but I'm not sure this tool will be a fit...

Successfully created Ram disk, but after copying the session to the Ram disk got the alert "This session is saved on a volume set to “Transfer” only."

Tried to change settings in Workspace but got "'ramdisk' cannot be designated as an Audio Record volume because it is not a fixed, removable or MediaNet volume."

When you log on to a local network, you initially get the same message. The network drive will be set to T (transfer only). But in this case you just change it to P (playback) or R (record) and from there on it will work.

Wonder if there's a similarity here where the RAM disk is seen as a network drive.

I've been meaning to try to log on to an ftp with a speedy upload and try to create a session directly on the ftp and record one track to it ... just for fun to see if it would work

Anyone else tried that with PT 10 ?

Chris

Have you tried enabling Journaling on the ramdisk?

Go to Disk Utility and reformat the disk as Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Lemme know if it works!

This ^^^ is where I also noticed a huge difference as well.

On the RAM Disk I consolidated 24 edited audio tracks during playback... took maybe two seconds. Opened the same session on the HD and consolidated the audio tracks during playback. Yep, it took longer, and halfway through the process got the classic "DAE can't get audio from the drives fast enough" error.

I see now that some have been doing this for a while on the PC side. Not sure how I missed it on the LE forum. Glad I got it now.

I tried that and still a no-go. Also tried Fat 32 for the hell of it and nothing. (PT 9.0.5 on OS X 10.7.2)

Great tip though, Dan! Thanks.

Chris

I tried that too but it won't let you change the ramdisk to Record or Play. When doing so PT pops up the same error message.
