Hi Guys,
I'm currently running Pro Tools 10 & 11 (co install). I predominantly use my system to document the composition and recording of any and all of my ideas. I use an Axe FX Ultra through Axe Edit v1.0.1 using the software to augment the current patches on the hardware (which sits in comfort in my rack, away from the desk). I'm unable to find a suitable setup to have the 003 and ultra conversing over MIDI in a fashion that would allow patch changes through the "Program Change" option in the DAW, Patch changes throught the Axe Edit software, as well as patch amendments. I also have an Mbox 2 that has provided me with the MIDI features required. Is it possible to connect both the Firewire 003+ and the Mbox, and harvest the MIDI connectivity only from the Mbox. Thus, negating any additionally unwanted features that comes with it? I understand that this has been asked previously, to very little resolve. Also; Computer - Custom Build PC Interfaces - Digidesign 003R+, Mbox 2 Software - Protools 10.3.8, Protools 11.1, Axe Edit 1.0.191. Thanks in advance guys. Regards, Niall. |

The 2 interfaces(003 and Mbox) cannot both be connected to Pro Tools at the same time so this will not work. I can't see how the Mbox provides any midi connectivity that the 003 can't match, so I would review your settings in Pro Tools. Specifically, make sure the Axe FX is a choice in Setup>Midi>Midi Studio and that you have assigned the midi ports and channels. Then review your Midi settings in PT to make sure you are not filtering out Program Change. It may also be worth a search on youtube for pro tools and midi as there may be something we both are missing

Hey Buddy,
Thanks for getting back to me. I assumed it wouldn't work, also going as far as to connect both at the same time... Pro Tools meltdown unsued. I don't really know it myself. The rear of the Mbox gave a Midi Out & Midi In. This seemed perfect to me, and had always worked previously. And with this, always showing an individual 'In' and 'Out' on the DAW and Axe Edit. The rear of the 003+ gives the option of the same two ports, however changes the DAW info from individual Ins & Outs to 'In/Out' & 'Out'. It doesnt seem like it should make much difference all out, but... I have attempted to set the up in the Midi Studio, but the Axe FX midi connectivity is purely there to send information from the system and for the system to view the subsequent changes. Effectively, the computer is the MIDI controller. I'll keep an eye out on the good Ye' Olde Youtube. Thanks for the help buddy. Regards, |
