Correct. Each HDX card can do 256 voiceable, with 3 HDX cards giving the max of 768. This is clearly stated in the specs on the website.

Happy new Year!
I would say a single HDX card is more like a HD3.

Just wanted to add that someone pointed out that RevibeII takes a whole chip
But the true performer for reverbs is Reverb One. I'm seeing 3 or maybe 4 per chip.

Yes - an HDX 3 is supported within a Mac Pro (no chassis yet).

FWIW, due to the architecture, the performance of 768 recorded tracks from the same source ought to be the same as 768 tracks from different sources (you'd have a hard time coming up with that many sources, but you could do something clever with aux tracks and bus sends). All 256 streams are always running from all the cards, and the routing is done on the cards, so recording 768 tracks, even from the same source, really is streaming 768 channels at a time (and they're streaming all the time, even when not recording).

Also, silence vs real signal ought not make a difference.

It can indeed play 768 tracks all at once.

I guess RAM cache was on?

I'd say a HDX2 is roughly equivalent to a HD6 (at least), but it's really hard to compare with very few 3rd party DSP plug-ins available at this point. I'm easily opening sessions on the HDX 2 (with plenty of processing/voices to spare) that were maxing out the HD6 before (192 voices, 9+ Revibes, DMG Equality EQ's and Avid compressors on every track, etc). Sessions also open and close much faster, and play start times are 1/3 what they were before.

Guys, remember that the disc cache feature is also in use when recording that´s why you have no trouble at all to record 768 tracks simultaneously. The feature called disc cache by AVID is just another word for RAM disc.
So basically your are recording to you RAM and ( later ) in the background the audio is transferred to your HD / Network disc / USB memory.
So to give you an idea how it works.
You have successfully recorded 128 audio tracks from a 30 minutes orchestral performance, but right there when you hit the stop button and saved your session there is a powerfailure. Everything goes down. Now big parts of your audio is totally gone because your audio was just recorded to RAM and not yet fully transferred to your external USB Harddisc.

Hi Firechild, I've redone the test without disk cache... I'm uploading the video on youtube right now...

It works perfectly... only thing that disk activity went up to 50% .. and in only one little spot went to 79%...

editing the tracks (cutting, doing a fade) it's pretty fast, considering the number of the tracks..

Video following soon..

Regards.
