Default Firewire 410 Apple Laptop Recommendation???????

HI

Been with Windows forever. I want to get a Mac laptop that works best with my Firewire 410. I like the macbook mb881ll/a becuase it has a Firewire 400 port. I am worried that their will be issues when switching to Mac. Any adivse would be appreciated.

I have been using my firewire 410 with my macbook pro for a while, with only a few issues, nothing major. As long as you have the interface and an external drive with the Oxford chipset you should be good. I notice most of the issues when running some pretty demanding VIs. When recording audio, I never have any issues.

That model that you selected should be fine for Pro Tools, you may want to kick the RAM up to 4GB, but that is cheap from OWC.

Macbook Pro - yes. Macbook - NO! If you want to run other software instruments besides pt. I have a Macbook 2.4 trying to run NI Komplete 5. No way!. Choked after only two tracks. Just upgraded the HD to a Seagate Momentus 500gb 7200rpm 16mb cache. Waiting to install the Komplete 5 again. Hopefully it can handle it. Note - macbook pros have firewire 400 and 800 plus esata. macbooks don't. Good luck

They do NOT have esate unless you add it via expresscard. Firewire 400 and 800 really doesn't matter at all for running VIs, so that is irrelevant as well. I think the macbook will be fine for most things, the pro really doesn't get you much more than a bigger screen, dedicated video and a bit faster processor. NI seems to cause problems for lots of people, regardless of their system.

The newest macbooks, of course, are completely lacking firewire, so those aren't really a good option.
