Default UNBELIEVABLE!!!!! Check this(digi also)

Hi
I am really surprised by Digi's support!!
My ilok is broken because somebody in the studio
dropped my keyboard on the floor.I contact the dealer of my area and Digidesign said that i have to pay 100$ for each authorization!!!There are seven authorizations on it!!This is the Digi's
support to a customer that owns a mix3 system
two 888's,an Adat bridge,a USD and a Procontrol!!

The dealer told me that,but i saw the email from
Digi!!The only thing that is missing in this story is that the first Ilok that i had is was not working so Digi send me a new one free of charge and of course i send the old one back to Digi.

If this really is true it's absolutely mind bending. I'm sick of trying to do everything legally and getting stuffed for it [img]images/icons/frown.gif[/img] Digi should be bending over backwards to give you a new ilok free. This just makes people want to find pirated software just to get rid of the hassle. At the end of the day they must make their copy protection really really transparent (and free) for the costumer or they should forget it.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">The way I know customer support at digidesign it would surprise me if they would have you pay 100$ for every authorisation. I think the best thing you can do is call them direct. or the head office in your region. you probably end up sending the broken one back to them and getting a new one paying for the mail or UPS service.

Maybe I'm seeing things more clearly than others. The way I see it is if you were to drop your interface, pour coffee in your channel strips you wouldn't expect the manufacturer to repair the unit free of charge! Surely you'd get it repaired and claim it off your insurance. Isn't that what you pay your premiums for?

One lesson to learn is make sure the iLok is on the back of the cpu next time where it is unlikely to be knocked off.

Hi speedyk5 and others,

I can understand your points, but as I've been in a similar situation, I wouldn't worry too much. Yes, I got a bill for all I lost, but I have been able to claim this expenses back from the insurance company...without any trouble. For them, it's been a "usual accident" in a studio where many different engineers work, and it's probably not the manufacturer to blame when you (or somebody) break(s) anything in your studio... ;-)

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Arial">Thats because it COSTS them to repair it. Re-Authorizing costs nothing and should be free to registered users.

Jason,

How do you know that "reauthorizing" costs nothing. You just assume that authorizations are FREE. Stupidity is the only thing that is free. Digi has always charged for "lost" authorizations just like any other company would do.

Call them directly and see what you can work out - that's what professionals do.
