Question Re: Best Laptops for PTLE

Hi guys... I have a really easy question:

I have PTLE 7.3 and I am looking for a computer that will run flawlessly with it. I prefer the MacBook or anything I can buy on Amazon for UNDER $1110. I am open to PCs as well.

Could you please suggest or link me to one that will work?

This one seems to be OK but I would need to upgrade to 7.4 and I don't see any links to do it without going to version 8:
http://www.amazon.com/Apple-MacBook-...0576238&sr=8-1

THANK YOU for your input

Hi folks,

I have a pretty old Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo M3438G Laptop at home and PTLE never worked really satisfying. With BFD2 as plug-in it is nearly impossible to work properly. Now with PTLE 8 it seems to be the right moment to invest in some new hardware. Unfortunately DIGIDESIGN has not yet updated its compatibility charts with newer laptop-models or newer PTLE versions.

Now the questions:
- I'am not that computer expert to find the best Windows-laptop under the trillions of possible configuration (HP, Dell, which chipset, which processor, and so on...). Is a MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo Intel all I need?
- All laptops on this list are discontinued:
Qualified Laptop Models Configured with Intel Core Duo Processors ONLY
Dell Precision M65*, Dell Precision M90*, Dell Inspiron 9400, Dell Inspiron E1705, HP NW9440, HP NX9420, HP NW8440, HP NC8430. Again: Is a MacBook Pro Core 2 Duo Intel all I need?
- Which new laptop-models are recommended for PTLE 8?
- Do I have to buy any cross-grades for PTLE or plug-ins like AMPLITUBE, BFD to change the OS?

Thanks for your help and a happy new year!

Hi folks,

next question:

does anyone encountered grounding problems with laptops from DELL or HP?

My Setup is: Laptop / MBox2 via USB / external HDD via Firewire with extra power supply
At the moment I use a Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo M3438 and have serious noise problems during recording using the power supply. Do I reduce the setup to Laptop / MBox via USB and use battery the noise is totally gone. So the cause of the noise is the power supply pack of the laptop.

It would be interresting for me to know, if this is a general problem using a laptop or if this is a special problem of my fujitsu-siemens laptop.

Hi I have an asus N80 with p8600 core 2 duo and an MBox 1. I've been trying to run PT 8 but am getting buffer related problems non-stop. I have an external 7200rpm seagate 1tera harddisk that Ive tried connecting eSata and firewire to no avail. Any ideas or is this chipset a problem.
I am running with vista home premium which I know isnt tested but havent heard too many problems with it.
any help would be really great

I'm in the market for a new laptop, my MusicXPC M4x just doesn't handle Pro Tools anymore, I don't know if the processor is just fried after two years of intensive recording sessions or what, but this machine wasn't all it was cracked up to be, plus customer service there is rather unresponsive, so I'm probably not going that route again. My 2.0GHz Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM isn't cutting it anymore. All I do is track sessions of 20-30 tracks and do mixing, too. Seems PT8 made a big difference in performance, but I've always had problems with this computer regardless.

I've been doing research and comparing laptops. It looks to me as far as the big names go, Dell provides the most bang for the buck -

2.4GHz Core 2 Duo,
4GB RAM,
320GB 7200RPM hard drive

for $1,394. That's compared to buying a Macbook Pro:

2.53GHz Core 2 Duo
4GB RAM
250GB 7200 RPM hard drive

for $2,499. I know Macs are hyped to be #1, but similar hardware for double the price doesn't sound all that appealing to me.

Then I stumbled upon this company Crown. It looks like I can get 2.93GHz Core 2 Duo, 4GB ram, 320GB 7200 RPM hard drive for $1274? That's a HUGE processing upgrade, for cheaper than Dell or Apple or HP or anyone else I researched.

Does anyone know anything about this company or have used their computers? What possible problems can you run into when using Pro Tools on an unknown or untested laptop? I'm tempted to go this route because money is my #1 consideration at this point.
