Default Run session from USB memory stick?

I'm going to demo new stuff on a really nice PA in a concert venue, and I was wondering if there are any problems running a PT session from a USB memory stick.

The place has Pro Tools (003 I think), so I'm bringing my laptop. Of course, I could bring my dedicated firewire hard drive as well, but it really isn't supposed to leave the house if not absolutely necessary. Plus it's bulky, and needs power, et c.

So, since running PT sessions from the Mac's own hard drive is strongly discouraged, would a USB memory stick work?

Have you tried to run the session already from the usb stick? Did it work? What if you booted up from the apple os dvd and used your mac drive for the session (assuming it's capable)

The access speeds of a DVD or USB memory stick MAY work with one or two audio tracks but other than that, forget running any serious audio work from either of these storage mediums.

I tried this several months back using the fastest USB drive I could find and it never could do even 2 tracks reliable (more than a few minutes).

It would be nice if someone produced a fast FireWire stick. Didn't OCZ do one for a while?

You could possibly get away with copying the file to the system drive. This is not recommended either, but many people are able to do so. If they have multiple drives, then any other non-system audio drive. Then of course you would have to be disciplined about removing the files after you were done.. They may also have a policy against copying anything to their computer...
