ModernBeats.com provide their samples in a number of different formats. How you want to use them is all up to you.

For instance, the freebie samples on their website come as looped wav files, and sample instrument files. You can use the wav loops right in Pro Tools tracks to build a performance. (for a brief tutorial on how to do this, click here)

Or you can open the included Kontakt format, or exs samples within Digidesign's Structure Free (included with PT8), and play them with a MIDI controller.

It all depends on how you want to use them.

It would also be worth your while to read the Pro Tools Reference Guide. It is included and installed with the Pro Tools software as a PDF file.
