Default 24bit session on PT III problem

As I stated in another thread, I have a problem on PT 5.0.1 on my PT III system where if I do the following...
1. Open a Pro Tools template.
2. Save the session with a name.
3. There is no audio in the session.
4. Do a "Save As" with another name.
5. Try to reopen the previous session.from step 2.
At this point I get a message telling me that the session is 24 bit and since I do not have a 24 bit card I can not open the session. This happens each time I do these steps.
